Unilock Construction in Rancho Mirage, CA | Sycamore Contractors

We’re Sycamore Contractors, an independent hardscape contractor installing and servicing Unilock pavers and walls across Rancho Mirage’s gated estates and custom-home lots. We are not authorized, sponsored, or endorsed by Unilock. What separates our Unilock work here from anywhere else in the valley is simple: Rancho Mirage’s architectural review process and the Coachella Valley’s wind-driven sand and 110°F-plus heat cycling demand a base, edge restraint, and joint-sand spec that most coastal or inland crews have never had to think about. Why Rancho Mirage Residents Choose Us for Unilock Service

Nate Calloway, our owner, grew up in the Redhawk neighborhood of Temecula and spent two decades running crews across Southwest Riverside County before Sycamore’s scope expanded into the Coachella Valley. He’s the guy homeowners call when they want a straight answer on what material actually survives the heat out here. Our work with Unilock sales & service starts with that same filter: we specify Unilock’s own edge restraint and polymeric joint sand rather than generic substitutes, because the polymer joint has to survive heat cycling and blowing sand without turning brittle. We’re local to the valley, we know what Rancho Mirage’s estate managers and architectural review boards will and won’t pass, and we stock what’s needed to keep a Rancho Mirage job moving rather than waiting on a parts truck out of San Bernardino. One contractor, every phase, from the hardscape up to the roofline if the job calls for it.

Common Unilock Construction Problems We Solve in Rancho Mirage

  • Joint sand washing and blowing out of paver joints. Wind-driven sand events in the valley act like a sandblaster on paver joints, and when monsoon sheet flow hits a low spot, the joint sand goes with it. Once the joints empty, pavers rock and shift under vehicle and foot traffic. On a Mission Hills drive we reset, re-leveled, and re-sanded with Unilock’s polymeric joint sand rated for the heat cycling we see here.
  • UV fading and surface chalking on unsealed pavers. Unshaded south- and west-facing patios in Rancho Mirage sit under desert sun that doesn’t quit. Lower-grade or unsealed pavers chalk and fade within a few seasons. We see this often enough that we advise sealing from day one on any exposed patio, especially around pool decks.
  • Edge restraint failure at drive aprons. Plastic edge or spike restraint creeps and heaves under heat cycling and root intrusion, letting the paver field spread. Once the apron spreads, the whole driveway starts walking. We pull the failed border and lock the edges with Unilock restraint, like we did on a Tamarisk estate off Frank Sinatra Drive.
  • Efflorescence and salt bloom from irrigation overspray. Estate lots in Rancho Mirage run heavy drip irrigation around pools and casitas. When that overspray hits new pavers, it pulls minerals to the surface as a white bloom. It’s cosmetic but it looks bad on a brand-new drive. We work with the irrigation schedule and the paver spec to keep it from recurring.
  • Base failure from flash-flood runoff. Winter storms and summer monsoons move water fast through Rancho Mirage’s low spots. If the aggregate base wasn’t built to handle that, pavers settle and the field sinks. We re-compact, re-grade, and rebuild the base before resetting the same Unilock field when it’s still sound.

Unilock Service in Rancho Mirage: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Rancho Mirage’s municipal and HOA design standards push estate hardscape toward muted desert-tan and charcoal palettes that match stucco and tile roofs. A Unilock in Indian Wells or Rancho Mirage driveway or patio spec here usually has to be color-submitted to an architectural review board before excavation begins. That review layer is not something flat, tract-built neighboring cities impose on hardscape. What it means for Unilock owners is that the palette, the finish, and often the paver profile itself have to be defensible in front of a board that sees hundreds of desert hardscape applications a year. We’ve gone in front of those boards enough to know which Brussels Block color blends read as “desert-compatible” and which Beacon Hill layouts will get flagged for clashing with the roofline. Get that wrong and you’re re-submitting before you’ve dug a trench. Get it right and the review passes on the first submission, which is the only way a Rancho Mirage hardscape schedule holds together through the heat.

Unilock Models & Products We Service in Rancho Mirage

We install and service the Unilock lines that show up most often on Rancho Mirage estate work: Unilock service in Palm Desert and here covers Brussels Block, the tumbled paver profile common on older estate drives; Cambridge Pavingstones with ArmorTec, which we spec for its surface durability under sand abrasion; Beacon Hill, the irregular flagstone-look pavers popular around pools and patios; and Lineo or U-Cara retaining walls where the lot slopes and needs a structured edge. On the parts side, we use Unilock’s own edge restraint and polymeric joint sand rather than generic substitutes. When an existing Unilock field is sound, we re-level, re-sand, and reset rather than tear out. When the base has failed or the pavers are spalling, replacing the affected field is the honest call. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before any work gets scheduled.
